Treasure House Novelties

Just a few months after Pearl Harbor, inflation had crept into the U.S war economy as demonstrated in this ad from Blue Bolt Comics, May 1942.

The wallet that sold for $.35 just five months earlier, was selling for $.45, a 28% increase.

No direct mention of the war is made, but the Blackout Button is an ominous reminder of life in wartime England.

Ad layout is crude and random. Marketing via this new medium of comic books is in its infancy, but comics as a phenomena are exploding. Once again, the publisher and the distributor of these novelties are one and the same.
